THE COLLECTIVE

Tashattot (Arabic for dispersion) is an art collective based in Belgium dedicated to supporting visual artists, musicians, film makers and cultural practitioners at large, originally from the SWANA region and currently “dispersed” in Europe. The collective aims at creating opportunities, collaborations, commissions and securing funding for these expatriate artists.

The word tashattot and its English equivalents scattering/dispersion, define the collective in both the literal sense of the word (pertaining to the description of the individuals scattered around the world, far from their homelands), as well as its metaphorical sense which relates to the scattering and dispersion of ideas and ways of thinking, as the word in Arabic is oftentimes used to describe the wandering of the thoughts (tashattot al afkar or scattered thoughts).

Tashattot is a work in progress and a newly launched collective with a fluid and evolving set of actions. It currently is and will always remain open to new ideas and experiences; continuously building on lessons learned and with practice. The collective strongly believes in the efficiency of open discussions, as the only way to grow and better address SWANA expat artists needs and aspirations, it therefore remains open to revi
ews, critiques, evaluations or any opinions related to its mechanisms.

Tashweesh Closing Party

Beursschouwburg

12 October 2024

We bring together six fearless queer, trans, and feminist artists from the SWANA region. Expect a night of unapologetic energy and self-expression on the dancefloor with live music, performances, and DJ sets. Featuring the raw lyricism of Enana (Rapper/Singer/Songwriter), the subversive art of Queer Falafel (Performer), and the genre-bending beats of Karen Keyrouz (DJ) Gucc Imane (DJ), ZOBAYDA (DJ), and Donia (DJ).
Programmed by Tashattot Collective under the invitation of Ichraf Nasri as part of Tashweesh Festival.

With Beursschouwburg, we will be donating a percentage of ticket sales to support Tunefork Studios in Beirut. Along with Beirut Synth Center, they’ve been raising funds to provide essentials like mattresses, pillows, blankets (and more) for people recently displaced in Lebanon.

At the event, QR codes will also be available for those who would like to donate to Nation Station, an NGO in Beirut providing meals and other basic necessities.

Biography

KAREN KEYROUZ
With many publications to her name and as a part of two acclaimed comic publishing collectives (Samandal Comics and Zeez), Karen Keyrouz comes from the world of contemporary and performative drawing and experimental comics. Luckily for us, she also plays live DJ sets when the right occasion presents itself.

ENANA
Enana is the Sumerian goddess of love, war, sex and fertility. Like their name, Enana is a multidimensional rapper, singer-songwriter, performer and activist on a quest for freedom and social justice. In the last years they have been nurturing a unique sound that represents their intersectional existence being born in Damascus and based in Berlin since 2015.

QUEER FALAFEL
Queer Falafel is a Lebanese genderfuck roaming around the globe. Here to remind you how ‘first world’ your problems are, and show you how fragile your whiteness is, by easily breaking it. Denouncing white supremacy and euro-centric colonialism’s history/present. Projecting their imposed discriminations onto your awarded privileges. Dismantling your neo-liberal minds. Free Palestine.

GUCC IMANE
Algerian-Italian photographer and DJ from Molenbeek, Gucc Imane has developed an eclectic musical identity that includes trap, rnb, dancehall, reggaeton, kpop, raï, oriental music, house and more. Her sole aim is to provide audiences with all kinds of emotions — Good music only no bs !

ZOBAYDA
ZOBAYDA is an Egyptian DJ and artist currently based in the Netherlands. In creating space with music, they honour the tradition of bringing people together through rhythm and percussion. Focusing on energy instead of genre, they mix an array of beats and sounds with influences from around the global south and its diaspora.

DONIA
Donia is based in Brussels and co-founder of sketchy lines records. As your local dopamine dealer she catches you in the streetlit corner of your soul to stretch genres until they lose their ego so you can just focus on your inner dance.
