THE COLLECTIVE

Tashattot (Arabic for dispersion) is an art collective based in Belgium dedicated to supporting visual artists, musicians, film makers and cultural practitioners at large, originally from the SWANA region and currently “dispersed” in Europe. The collective aims at creating opportunities, collaborations, commissions and securing funding for these expatriate artists.

The word tashattot and its English equivalents scattering/dispersion, define the collective in both the literal sense of the word (pertaining to the description of the individuals scattered around the world, far from their homelands), as well as its metaphorical sense which relates to the scattering and dispersion of ideas and ways of thinking, as the word in Arabic is oftentimes used to describe the wandering of the thoughts (tashattot al afkar or scattered thoughts).

Tashattot is a work in progress and a newly launched collective with a fluid and evolving set of actions. It currently is and will always remain open to new ideas and experiences; continuously building on lessons learned and with practice. The collective strongly believes in the efficiency of open discussions, as the only way to grow and better address SWANA expat artists needs and aspirations, it therefore remains open to reviews, critiques, evaluations or any opinions related to its mechanisms.

Salwa Jaradat & SAWT

Salwa Jaradat and SAWT come together in an upcoming collaboration merging Salwa’s evocative Arabic vocal heritage with SAWT’s ambient and textural soundscapes. The project unfolds as a sonic dialogue between voice and atmosphere, where ancestral melodies meet contemporary electronic sensibilities.

Salwa Jaradat is a Palestinian vocalist based in Paris. With over a decade of training in Arabic classical and folk traditions as well as Western classical styles, she has become an integral part of the traditional music landscape, performing with a number of orchestras and alongside renowned Arab artists and musicians.
Most recently, Salwa has collaborated with producer Etyen on a project fusing industrial soundscapes with traditional Palestinian rhymes, marking a bold step into experimental and cross-genre sonic territories.

SAWT (Arabic for sound) is the alias of Palestinian Brussels-based producer Kamel Badarneh. Exploring the intersections of Techno, Ambient and Experimental music, SAWT seeks to blend genres and intertwine them harmoniously.

YUNIS

Rooted between Egypt and elsewhere, YUNIS moves through the space where tradition and
experimentation intertwine. His music draws from trance, ritual, and collective memory,
transforming ancestral echoes into evolving sonic forms. Through live performance and sonic
research, he explores how rhythm, voice, and repetition can open portals of connection—between  body, place, and spirit. For YUNIS, heritage is not something to preserve, but something that keeps unfolding, breathing, and transforming through sound.

OPERA FOR 1000 CROWS Live Performance
Opera for 1000 Crows is a performative music piece that intertwines live electronics, haunting cello, visceral vocals, and the playful innocence of toys to explore the fragile space between life and death. Rooted in a funeral dance ritual from Upper Egypt and Delta villages, the piece draws an uncanny parallel between a mourning tradition and a children's street game.
It is an opera for limping bodies and wandering souls, a space where crows guide us through the echoes of past and future, where sorrow and joy hold mirrors to one another.

This project is made possible with the joint efforts of LAC, ABP, Medeber Teatro, PAC Régional, and Tashattot Collective.
