THE COLLECTIVE

Tashattot (Arabic for dispersion) is an art collective based in Belgium dedicated to supporting visual artists, musicians, film makers and cultural practitioners at large, originally from the SWANA region and currently “dispersed” in Europe. The collective aims at creating opportunities, collaborations, commissions and securing funding for these expatriate artists.

The word tashattot and its English equivalents scattering/dispersion, define the collective in both the literal sense of the word (pertaining to the description of the individuals scattered around the world, far from their homelands), as well as its metaphorical sense which relates to the scattering and dispersion of ideas and ways of thinking, as the word in Arabic is oftentimes used to describe the wandering of the thoughts (tashattot al afkar or scattered thoughts).

Tashattot is a work in progress and a newly launched collective with a fluid and evolving set of actions. It currently is and will always remain open to new ideas and experiences; continuously building on lessons learned and with practice. The collective strongly believes in the efficiency of open discussions, as the only way to grow and better address SWANA expat artists needs and aspirations, it therefore remains open to revi
ews, critiques, evaluations or any opinions related to its mechanisms.

Food, Memory and Territory: a talk around food and culture

Discussion Panel

Food, politics and transmission

Join Kinan Mansour and Sabine Boghossian for a roundtable conversation weaving stories, memories and experiences of (dis)connection around food from across Bilad al-Sham (Levant countries). Encompassing a wealth of regional expressions, planting, cooking and eating are rooted in their shared heritage and weave threads of connection across borders. Through their journeys in diaspora, they reflect on their relationship to the land, to its bounty and to their practice of community, commensality and identity.

Sabine Boghossian

Sabine Boghossian is a multidisciplinary creative who dives headfirst into anything that captures her curiosity. Born and bred in a multicultural household in Aleppo, Syria, she has spent the last decade balancing her life between Beirut and Brussels. Her passion for food and sensitivity to language fuel her diverse practice, which spans scenography, design, and copywriting on subjects as varied as architecture, food, culture and identity.

Kinan Mansour

Hi, my name is Kinan. I’m a Syrian art director / graphic designer based in Copenhagen, Denmark. Cooking is my passion and spreading my beautiful culture through the culinary art is one of my goals in life. I initiated underground dining in Beirut where I served a set menu every other weekend. Upon moving to Copenhagen I did personal chef experiences where I cooked for people and their invitees in their homes. I’ve been doing a lot of food pop-up concepts in various forms such as a communal table, street food at a club, open buffets, food workshops, taking over a bar for a weekend among other ideas.

This project is made possible with the joint efforts of Fame Festival, Espace Magh and Tashattot Collective.
